A Study of Psalm 37 - Part Three (vs. 23-34)
Verses 23 and 24 in this Psalm are some of my favorite verses in the Bible and actually are the reason that I chose to do a study on Psalm 37.
The Lord establishes the steps of a man and He delights in his way. This shows a little glimpse of God's sovereignty - God is in control of the future. He divinely orders all events according to His plan, even including the steps of a man.
When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the Lord is the One who holds his hand. I love the picture that this paints in my mind! When we fall, how comforting is it to know that God is holding our hand! He may allow us to fall, but He loves us so much and just won't let go. What a loving Father we have!
Even according to verse 25 the righteous will never be forsaken. We can surely place our trust in God and be completely assured that He will never forsake us!
Verses 27-33 show us in so many ways that God does not forsake the righteous. Even though the wicked may plot against us and seek to destroy us, God is on our side. He is much more powerful than the wicked and will not let the righteous fall.
Verse 34 gives the exhortation to wait for the Lord and keep His way. Don't be afraid of the future or when you fall, trust in the Lord because He establishes your steps and holds your hand.
